'I will have NO part of it' Heseltine warns May future Tories will be 'BLAMED' for Brexit

Lord Heseltine, who has previously called for another vote on leaving the EU, claimed the Tories would not be forgiven for delivering Brexit. The Prime Minister has defended her agreed Brexit deal with Brussels claiming it delivers on the 2016 EU referendum. Speaking in the House of Lords, he said: “I tell you. There are no solutions that helps the fortunes of the least privileged in the most stressful circumstances that are dissociable from public expenditure.

“If this House is solemnly going to vote knowingly as we have heard here today for a slower economy, for lower tax revenues, for lower public expenditure.

“Those who will suffer the most are those least able to bear a strain.

“When the election comes, it will have been a Tory that led the referendum campaign.

“It will have been a Tory Government that perpetuated the frozen living standards.

“It will have been a Tory Government that is blamed for what we are talking about today.”

He added: “I will have no part of it.”

It comes as MPs have been debating the Prime Minister’s Brexit agreement in the House of Commons before the crucial meaningful vote on Tuesday 11 December.

Speaking in the House of Commons on Tuesday the Prime Minister defended her deal, saying: “The referendum was a vote to bring our EU membership to an end and create a new role for our country in the world.

“To deliver on our vote, we need to deliver a Brexit that respects the decision of the British people. A Brexit that takes back control of our borders, laws and money, and a Brexit that sets ourselves on course for a better future outside the EU as a globally trading nation, in charge of our own destiny, and ceasing the opportunities of trade with some of the fasting growing and most dynamic economies across the world.”

Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn dismissed the Prime Minister’s agreement claiming it had put the country “over a barrel”.

He said: “This Government is not taking back control, it is losing control.”
